"Howelling at the Moon"
For those of you that don’t know, my sweetie and I met online. We navigated a long-distance relationship for 2.5 years. Him in residing in Jackson, MS and me in Baton Rouge, LA. We met for our first date in the little town of Sibley, MS which is a short distance from Natchez, MS. One of my friends has a home there and would let me crash there when Mark and I would meet for our first few dates. That spot is pretty special for us at this point.
Clear communication has been a necessity and commitment for us from the beginning. In 2019 we decided to start a tradition of going away for the New Year and setting goals and intentions for the year to come. In 2020 we went to Fountain Blue State Park in Mandeville, LA. We laid out plans for me to begin transitioning to move to Mississippi by the end of 2020. While we accomplished all the goals laid out, none of them happened the way we thought they would. I sold my place in July and made the transition much earlier than expected. I am happy to announce, we survived moving in together during quarantine life with grace. There have been a few bumps, but nothing he couldn’t handle. Lol!
My friend is putting her home near Natchez on the market soon, so we decided to have this years “Howelling at the Moon Summit Meeting” at her place. We did not lay out plans like we did last year. Probably because so much of life is still weird and up in the air with the current pandemic situation.
I am currently reading and working my way through the book Helping People Change: Coaching with Compassion for Lifelong Learning and Growth. One of the exercises looked like it would be a good way to get to know each other a little better and open lines of communication that may not come up otherwise.
This exercise looked like a good way for us to express our dreams and desires. Which once known, we could figure out ways to support each other in laying the groundwork to reach them in the years to come.
The exercises we did are below. If you choose to do them, I would love to know your experience and who you share them with.
